Will checking my rate affect my credit score?
No. We run a soft search, which is invisible to lenders and has no impact on your score. A hard search only happens once, right at the end, if you accept a deal and tell us to go ahead with that lender.
Can I get car finance with bad credit?
Very often, yes. Our panel includes specialist lenders who look at what you can afford today rather than mistakes from years ago, including CCJs, defaults, thin files and past IVAs. See bad credit car finance for the honest detail.
What's the difference between PCP and HP?
PCP defers a chunk of the car's value to an optional final payment, so monthlies are lower and you can hand the car back at the end. HP splits the whole price across the term, so the payments are higher but the car is automatically yours at the end. There is a full comparison on the PCP page.
Do I need a deposit?
Not necessarily, as many of our lenders offer deals with no deposit at all. That said, every pound of deposit shrinks both your monthly payment and your total interest. You can weigh that up in the calculator.
Do I have to buy from a specific dealer?
No. Your approval works at any reputable UK dealer, and it makes no difference whether you find the car or the finance first. Payout is processed directly to the supplying dealer once paperwork is signed.
Can I pay my finance off early?
Yes, and it is your legal right under the Consumer Credit Act. You get a statutory rebate on future interest, so settling early nearly always saves money. Ask your lender for a settlement figure whenever you like.
What documents will I need?
Usually just your driving licence and three years of address history. Some lenders ask for proof of income such as payslips or bank statements, and we will tell you exactly what is needed before anything is submitted.
How long does the money take to reach the dealer?
On weekdays it is typically the same day you sign, often within a few hours. Weekend signings usually fund on Monday morning.
How does MotoLend make money?
Lenders pay us a commission when an agreement is completed. This may be a fixed fee or a percentage of the amount you borrow, and can vary between lenders and products. Under FCA rules, the commission we receive does not influence the interest rate (APR) you are offered. In accordance with CONC 4.5, you have the right to request disclosure of the commission amount before entering into a credit agreement by contacting sales@motolend.co.uk.
Can I refinance a car I'm already paying off?
Yes, and it is one of our most popular products, especially for beating rates signed at the dealership and for spreading a PCP balloon payment across monthly instalments. Start at refinancing.
